Principal's Report
Working Bee
A big thank you to all the families who took time out of their weekend to join our working bee. The front gardens are looking so much better thanks to everybody’s hard work and there was a great community spirit! I was very impressed by how hard our students (and their younger siblings) worked to get through the many jobs. Thank you to Krystal (P&C) for coordinating and to Greg (GA), Lila (SLSO) and Polly (OOSH) for supporting with this event.

Achievements
We wanted to congratulation Jarrod W 5/6D on being selected as a winner in the 2025 WriteOn competition. The competition received over 650 entries, making it one of the biggest WriteOn competitions ever.
We are thrilled to share a small insert of Jarrod's winning piece:
The Burning Towers
The empty sky was filled with black smoke, covering the distant horizon from view. Straw huts jutted out across the broken landscape, as the village awoke to the smell of charred buildings. The necropolis settlement for exiled pilgrims had grown beyond a mere community for those who hated the kingdoms of Demea. It is now a prospering sanctuary that emerged from mammoth sand dunes.
Congratulations Jarrod!
Extended leave applications
Please be reminded that families planning extended leave during the school term must submit an application in advance, in line with the NSW Department of Education Attendance Policy. This applies to planned absences of 5 or more school days. Please contact the school office for the appropriate form and further information.
Road safety
For everyone’s safety, please avoid making U-turns outside of the school and in the school zone. We appreciate your support in following the local road rules and driving carefully during drop-off and pick-up times.

Kindergarten 2026 Enrolments Now Open
Do you have a child starting Kindergarten in 2026 or know someone in the local area who does? Enrolments are now open! Our Kindergarten Orientation Program begins on Tuesday 28 October, helping our newest and youngest students to settle in and feel confident for their start at school next year. Please contact the school office for more information on the enrolment process.
Stay Cyber-Aware!
October is Cyber Security Awareness Month and a great time to remind students, staff and families ways to stay safe online. From using strong passwords to spotting phishing scams, simple habits can protect personal information and keep our community secure online.
You may also have heard that from 10 December 2025 some social media platforms will no longer be allowed to let Australian children under 16 create or maintain accounts. To help families, educators and young people prepare, eSafety has launched free resources and live webinars at eSafety.gov.au, covering what the changes mean and how to support young people through the transition.
Check out the Cybermarvel website for practical information and resources to help families stay safe online.

World Teachers’ Day – Friday 31 October
Next week we celebrate World Teachers’ Day as an opportunity to recognise the dedication and care our teachers show every day. We are so lucky to have such an amazing team of teachers here at Eastwood Heights, who are so committed to supporting our students. Thank you for all that you do!
Focus On Learning - EALD
The Year 2 EAL/D writing groups have been reading ‘A Tale of Two Beasts’ by Fiona Roberton. The students are learning to think about events from the perspective of different characters and provide evidence to support their thinking. After discussion, they write about this in a structured paragraph.
The writing groups have worked hard this semester and their understanding of perspective and their paragraph writing skills have all shown improvement.
Muyao and Sashri from 2M always participate in discussion, are eager to learn and consistently do their best work. Look out on our Facebook page later this week for more examples of great work.

Canteen

Hi Everyone
Welcome back to Term 4. The year has certainly flown. Canteen is stocked up with lots of refreshing icy treats to keep the students cool in the summer heat! We also have lots of fruit juices and flavoured milks which are always popular. Our new items on the menu are proving to be popular. Don’t forget to try the new Special Fried Rice, Ravioli Napolitana and Penne Napolitana and the Oz Bake pizza chicken or cheese pizza slabs. Order all items on Spriggy for lunch or recess.
Birthday Boxes are also available to be ordered through Spriggy. A great way to celebrate your child’s special day with their classmates.
EHPS Canteen is a “Great Choice Healthy School Canteen” and meets all the requirements of the NSW Government Healthy School Canteen Strategy.
We are always looking for volunteers to help out for a few hours from 9.30-12.30 so if you have a few spare hours please feel free to contact me at any time or just pop in and say hello.
Great coffee, morning tea and lunch are provided for all volunteers.
Thank you
Nancy Scro

Parliament & Civics Education Rebate
Year 6 students from our school recently experience an education tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage, and democracy.
The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding to our school in the amount of $30 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.
